The Blue Line begins in Sycamore

November 19, 2007-The City of Sycamore and Voluntary Action Center (VAC) have partnered to provide the Blue Line flexible bus route in Sycamore.  The new service will increase transportation options for all Sycamore residents.

VAC currently provides approximately 20,000 annual para-transit rides to Sycamore residents.  VAC has provided these services for more than 30 years throughout DeKalb County.  This service has provided critical mobility for transit dependent persons including seniors, persons with disabilities, individuals unable to drive and the general public.  The para-transit service is designed to accommodate each passenger's needs including; access to community facilities, health care facilities, public and private agencies, shopping, to and from work and social opportunities in the community.

The Blue Line will operate like a traditional bus service from 7:00 am-9:00 pm Monday through Friday.  The service will operate along an established route throughout Sycamore and will travel as far south as Market Square Plaza.  The route is also flexible, so passengers may request to get on or off at locations not identified on the established route.  The bus will accommodate any reasonable and safe deviation requests.  The route will repeat every hour, beginning and ending at the Civic Apartments.

VAC is hopeful that many of the current para-transit users will choose the Blue Line instead, as it is more convenient and does not require passengers to schedule rides in advance.  The Blue Line will share some stops with the DeKalb Green Line, a similar service provided in DeKalb for more than eight years.  A free transfer from the two lines will be offered.

The fee will be $.50 for a one-way ride.  Multiple rides passes will be available at a discounted rate. Click here for the route schedule.
