COLLEGE INTERN APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE

The Sycamore Fire Department is now accepting applications for Paid-On-Call College Interns to be appointed in the summer of 2008. Two Students will be selected from applicants this year. Applications must be picked up from the Fire Department Secretary at the Sycamore Fire Department located at 535 DeKalb Avenue, Sycamore IL 60178, from March 15, 2008 thru April 15, 2008. Office hours are from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday – Friday.

College Interns become part of the Sycamore Fire Department Team and function as Paid on Call Firefighters.

If selected as a College Intern, firefighters will serve the sycamore fire department for a period of 3 years from appointment.  The Sycamore Fire Department will provide students with fire academy training, and sponsor the student in the EMT-P program.

Each student must complete the three year program, serve a minimum of 24 hours internship per week, remain a full time student, successfully pass all coursework, and adhere to the Sycamore Fire Department rules and regulations.

Candidates must submit a completed application with copies of the following required information, and will be evaluated on the following criteria.

• High School Grades
• ACT scores
• College Coursework and Grades
• Application form
• Preference given to Sycamore Residents
• Preference given for Kishwaukee Education Consortium High School Cadet Students

Requirements

·        Be a permanent, legal resident of the USA

• Be 18 years of age at time of appointment
• Have completed 1 year of college
• Reside within 7 miles of the fire station
• Pass background investigation
• Have a valid Illinois Drivers License
• Pass Physical Exam including drug screening
